Is headless right for every Shopify store?+

No. In fact, we frequently advise clients doing under $5M GMV to remain on a well-optimized Liquid theme. Headless introduces hosting infrastructure, custom app integrations, and CMS licensing costs. Headless makes business sense when you need sub-second international latency, complex custom configurators, or dynamic multi-store catalogs.

How does Shopify Hydrogen compare to Next.js for headless commerce?+

Both are excellent modern frameworks. Hydrogen is built by Shopify on top of Remix, which provides built-in Storefront API clients, native Oxygen hosting with zero extra fees, and first-party customer account APIs. We build with both Next.js App Router and Hydrogen depending on your existing tech stack.

What happens to our Shopify apps when we go headless?+

Backend apps (inventory, ERP, shipping, order processing) continue working unchanged. Frontend apps (reviews, loyalty, search) must provide an API or SDK to be rendered in React. We integrate reviews (Yotpo, Okendo, Stamped), search (Algolia, Klevu), and subscriptions (Recharge) natively via their modern REST/GraphQL APIs.
